Chapter 11

• Read Catechist Background – page 99A

• Prayer – Page 99 ~ children look at the picture of shepherd.  Explain how he cares for and guides a flock of sheep, just as Jesus guides and cares for us.  Gather at your prayer space for the prayers to Jesus the Shepherd.

• At their seats – discuss answers to questions on page 99. (See “Focus on Life” – Teacher Guide)

• Chapter story – page 99E. (Teacher Guide)

Key Points If Time is Limited

• Key Words – Penance and Reconciliation – in advance, on index cards, write one letter of Penance on an index card.  Randomly hand out cards.  Have children with cards come to the front of the class.  Have other children unscramble the word to find the key word.(with Reconciliation use syllables:  rec/on/cil/i/a/tion.)
• Page 101 – follow the Teacher’s Guide 

Have the class complete the sentence on page 101.

• Page 102 – follow the Teacher’s Guide.  Key Word: conscience.

• Page 103 – Read the first paragraph.  Have the children underline the second and third sentences.

• o *Act of Contrition – Have the children use their own Act of Contrition, not the one in the book.  

• o Read “As Catholics” – Page 103.

• Page 105 – Have the class read together: “Remember”.
